‘The Dan’ Makes Its Debut in Downtown Tampa This Spring

The Dan (formerly known as the Sapphire Lounge) opened its doors in Downtown Tampa, inside the historic Floridan Palace Hotel, this spring. The Dan is a modern fusion of Gulf Coast cuisine and old-school speakeasies. The menu can be described as "Gulf coastal with soul" and highlights both local ingredients and classic dishes, balancing current with the familiar. A variety of raw oysters, steaks, and local seafood is also featured alongside a historically-inspired cocktail program. 

"We're thrilled to bring a unique dining experience to NoDo, an epicenter of culture and nightlife in downtown Tampa. Our team has worked hard to create an environment unlike any other, and we're excited to share it with Tampa Bay locals and hotel guests alike," says Crystal Rivera, General Manager of Floridan Palace Hotel. 

At the bar, guests can find specialty libations such as the Green Door, So We Beat On, and Bourbon Street Blues. The cocktail menu also features timeless cocktails like the Old Fashioned, Negroni, Espresso Martini, and Sazerac. The Dan provides guests with a cotton candy treat when the check is dropped as a sweet send off. It also serves as garnish for The Dan's signature Champagne Cocktail

foBT Hospitality, a restaurant consulting firm based in New York City, is responsible for the reimagined concept at the historic hotel. The Dan serves dinner seven days a week, weekday lunch, and will soon offer weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Interior lighting is soft and the music played is a lively 1920s jazz tune with a familiar beat.

"The renovation set out to create a captivating experience that celebrates the 1920s' era and the spirit of the building's origination," says Christina Kirkpatrick, Senior Designer at Jacki Arena Interiors. "It features a fully refurbished historic bar, new floor, wall, and ceiling finishes. All new furniture including custom lounge-style banquettes with beautiful tufting and integrated lights that will span the entire distance of both window walls. A special ceiling feature along the center of the space highlights new seating zones in the restaurant's new layout. Along the perimeter, there are new glamorous light fixtures to add liveliness and luster to the space."

Willie's Now Taking In-Person Interviews Ahead of Grand Opening in Kyle

Willie's Grill & Icehouse is looking for friendly team players ready to help open the Texas giant's highly anticipated first location in Kyle, Texas. Willie's is currently interviewing candidates for more than 100 positions. The in-person interviews are taking place outside of the brand-new location at 19220 I-35, Kyle, TX 78640. Set to open in July 2023, Willie's Kyle will be the 20th location for the beloved brand.

Willie's Kyle will be the eighth Willie's outpost to feature a full bar, which creates exciting opportunities for bartenders at the location. Other positions will include servers, cooks, counter team members, bussers, and dishwashers. Willie's has developed an innovative service model focusing on efficiency and anticipating guests' needs, which helps to ensure bigger tip pools for servers. Willie's actively promotes and hires from within, believing every position has the potential for long-term career growth.   

Interviews are conducted all day, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Applicants should make their way to the temporary hiring center, identified by the "Now Hiring" banner outside of the restaurant. Applicants should arrive ready to fill out applications and interview that same day. Candidates can also text "APPLY WILLIES" 85000 to apply and set up an interview.

According to a Walk Free survey, an estimated 50 million people were victims of human trafficking in 2021. Also defined as modern-day slavery, it involves the recruitment, movement, and exploitation of people, especially women, for sex trafficking, labor trafficking (people forced to work for little to no money in terrible environments), and domestic slavery (where people are abused and forced to work without pay).  

"Our solution helps prepare hotel staff, where one can trigger an alarm via a wearable or using their smartphone, communicate via chat on emergencies, and plan and react to real-time emergencies," Kanti said. "Interactive training will help staff learn the signs should human trafficking happen. Employees in the hospitality arena can also be targeted as victims. All in all, our panic solution supports hotel security, safety, and compliance." 

According to the Department of Homeland Security, traffickers use the privacy and anonymity the hotel industry offers. Staff can look out for some of the signs: malnourished or sleep-deprived individuals; people who dress inappropriately, especially for their age; individuals who request multiple rooms or housekeeping services but deny staff entry into the rooms; people using multiple computers, cell phones, or credit cards; someone who rents rooms less than a full day; or individuals at a table or bar waiting to be picked up.  

Hotel operations technology like WkrSpot's panic solutions built-in security measures can make employees feel more secure and safe while at work and be aware of theft and human trafficking. 

Six Strategies for Better Safety in Hotels 

- Develop and implement "human trafficking" policies with a clear outline of procedures and guidelines for reporting suspected cases.
